Robert Vann has set DRACULA in the Transylvanian town of Sibiu. Antoniu, the son of Lord Vlad Dracul, disguises himself as a wandering minstrel to escape an unwanted marriage. He falls in love with Nadia, a beautiful schoolgirl betrothed to the Lord High Executioner, Cocos. The plot unfolds into hilarious, topsy-turvy, chaos and true love rises “triumphant overall.”

Our pairing of these two holiday gems, which had its west-coast premiere by LOTS in 2024, is back by poplar demand!

Amahl and the Night Visitors is the story of a poor shepherd boy, Amahl, as he and his mother provide hospitality to some unexpected visitors—the Three Wise Men, following a glorious star to Bethlehem. Amahl’s selfless act of giving leads to a miraculous healing, and he and his mother are blessed with newfound hope and joy. Words and music by Gian-Carlo Menotti. Presented under license by G. Schirmer, Inc., copyright owners.

In contrast, the Four Lost Santas is the comical story of a quartet of singing Santas whose car breaks down on their way to a Santa Claus Convention. They are rescued by a son (Rudy) and mother (Judy), who are late for their performance of Amahl and the Night Visitors. Will the Santas make it to SantaCon? Will Rudy and Judy get to the theater on time to perform in Amahl? Music by Spicer Carr. Libretto by Rose Freeman and Spicer Carr. Concept by Gabriel Preisser.

The Threepenny Opera is a razor-sharp, darkly comic play with music by Kurt Weill and original German lyrics by Bertolt Brecht, that exposes the rot beneath both the criminal underworld and polite society. At its center is the seductive outlaw Macheath—better known as Mack the Knife—scheming his way through love, betrayal, and the relentless pursuit of the law. As Mack tries to stay one step ahead of the police and his many enemies, the boundary between hardened criminals and the so-called respectable elite all but disappears.

This new English adaptation trades Victorian London for the neon-soaked excess of 1980s Miami. It will be staged at Strada & Corsa Italian Sportscars, surrounded by the ultimate emblem of ’80s wealth: the Ferrari. Presented in an intimate cabaret style with reduced orchestration.

Princess Ida, desperate to escape the patriarchal society she has been raised in, breaks her engagement with Hilarion, the prince her father selected for her when she was a baby, to found Castle Adamant, a women’s university. Prince Hilarion, accompanied by his friends, Cyril and Florian, sneaks into Castle Adamant, attempting to woo the princess. Calamity, hilarity, and a battle between rival kingdoms ensues – but will Princess Ida find love after all? This modern adaptation of Gilbert & Sullivan’s PRINCESS IDA boasts a beautiful score, catchy lyrics, and one of comic opera’s most interesting heroines.

A LOTS company premiere!
